Braithwaite
Village
Braithwaite is a friendly place, offering
a wide variety of amenities for visitors.
The village is situated just 2 miles to
the west of Keswick, with superb views
of the Northern Fells in all directions.
There is a village shop with a grocery
store that provides most everyday things
and a charming beck that runs through
the centre of the village.
Braithwaite has a lively junior school,
a campsite and a number of excellent pubs.
The Coledale valley leads up from Braithwaite,
up to Force Crag mines, below Grisedale
Pike and Crag Hill, at the far end of
the valley. The mines, now abandoned,
were first operated in the 1860s –
their product being lead. Crag Hill dominates
this Valley. A classic day’s walk
known as the Coledale Horseshoe can be
made from Braithwaite, taking in peaks
surrounding the valley including Grisedale
Pike, Crag Hill and Causey Pike.
